Safe, natural Chiropractic care.
YOUR CHIROPRACTIC CARE FAQ'S
IS CHIROPRACTIC TREATMENT SAFE & EFFECTIVE ?
Scientific evidence proving that the chiropractic care works is overwhelming. Over the past 20 years, many controlled and independent research studies have shown again and again that chiropractic care is safe and effective for treating lower back pain, neck pain, headaches and other conditions relating to the spine and other joints in the body. Based on these scientific studies, the consensus is that chiropractic care is the treatment of choice for most spinal (joint) problems.
IS CHIROPRACTIC TREATMENT APPROPRIATE FOR CHILDREN ?
Yes. Children can benefit from chiropractic care. Children are very physically active and experience many types of falls and blows from activities of daily living as well as from participating in sports. Injuries such as these may cause many symptoms including back and neck pain, stiffness, soreness or discomfort. Chiropractic is also effective in treating colic in infants.
ARE THERE ANY RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH CHIROPRACTIC CARE ?
As with all medical intervention, Chiropractic care does have its own set of risks. These can include an aggravation of any inflammatory condition, neuromusculoskeletal sprain or strain, fracture and, very rarely, vertebral artery syndrome. However, it is important to know that you are at a greater risk of being struck by lightening (1<100 000) than suffering from a complication of a chiropractic adjustment (1>100 000).
Chiropractic is widely recognised as one of the safest drug-free, non-invasive therapies available for the treatment of neuromusculoskeletal complaints. Chiropractic has an excellent safety record, however, no health treatment is completely free of potential adverse effects. The risks associated with chiropractic are very small. Many patients feel immediate relief following chiropractic treatment, but some may experience mild soreness, stiffness or aching, just as they do after some forms of exercise.
I CAN “CLICK” MY OWN NECK & BACK. WHY SHOULD I STILL SEE A CHIROPRACTOR ?
A chiropractor has been trained in doing motion palpation techniques. This technique is a method of examination that is used to find the restricted (or “stuck”) vertebral segment. Once the chiropractor has determined the levels that the restrictions are present, he or she will then perform an adjustment. This will then get the restricted segment to function normally again. The techniques that the Chiropractor uses has been mastered over many years and therefore should not be tried at home or elsewhere. The “click” that you hear is a gas bubble being released inside the joint fluid and it helps further promote production of this fluid. Hence, there is less tension within the area and the patient feels less pain. When you “click” your neck or back, this is the sound from a segment that is already functioning well. The more you do so unnecessarily to a healthy vertebral segment, the more hypermobile or unstable they will become. This will ultimately lead to more discomfort and pain.
